What does this tool do?
Rotate PDF fixes the orientation of pages with a single click. Reach for it whenever you need to read a sideways or upside-down scan, normalize a deck that mixes portrait and landscape pages, or unify a PDF stitched from phone photos taken at different orientations.
The HexxPDF Rotate tool runs in your browser — your files are not uploaded to our servers. Click pages to assign 90° → 180° → 270°, or pick an angle at the top and use "Apply this angle to all pages" to set the same rotation on the whole document in one go.
Rotation is stored in the page metadata; the PDF is not rasterized. Text stays selectable, vector graphics keep their sharpness, and hyperlinks remain clickable. The result is a PDF with the same quality as the original — only oriented correctly.
How to use it
Upload your PDF
Drag the sideways, upside-down or mixed-orientation PDF onto the upload area or click "Choose file". Once it loads, every page appears as a thumbnail you can scroll through.
Choose the rotation angle
Use the angle buttons at the top — 90° right, 180°, or 90° left. That choice is the brush for "Apply this angle to all pages"; individual thumbnail clicks follow their own 90° → 180° → 270° → off cycle.
Assign rotations to pages
Click any page thumbnail to assign a rotation. To rotate the whole document the same way, pick an angle first, then press "Apply this angle to all pages". Pages you leave unassigned stay as-is; use "Clear all assignments" to reset.
Apply different angles to different pages if needed
In a mixed-orientation PDF, set each page through the click cycle. The badge on each thumbnail and the rotated preview show exactly how that page will export.
Apply the rotation and download
Click "Download rotated PDF". The job runs locally in your browser; the new, correctly oriented PDF is ready to download.

Tips and best practices
If only one page is sideways, rotate just that page — there's no need to rotate the entire PDF.
When many pages are wrong the same way, pick the right angle first, then "Apply this angle to all pages" finishes the job in one shot.
Check each page's assigned angle on the thumbnail badge; the rotate button in fullscreen preview uses the same cycle.
It's good practice to keep a copy of the original document before applying the rotation, just in case.
On very large PDFs the job can take a few seconds; if a thumbnail still looks sideways while loading, the file itself is fine — only the preview is catching up.
Frequently asked questions
- Are the standard 90-degree rotations supported?
- Yes. 90° (right), 270° (left) and 180° (upside-down) are all supported. Most sideways or upside-down scans are fixed in a single rotation.
- Can I rotate only selected pages?
- Yes. Click any thumbnail (or use the fullscreen preview) to cycle a page through 90° → 180° → 270° → off, or pick an angle at the top and press "Apply this angle to all pages" for the whole document. Different pages in the same PDF can end up with different angles.
- Does rotating affect PDF quality?
- No. The rotation is stored in the page metadata only — the PDF content is not re-rendered or rasterized. Text stays searchable, vector graphics stay sharp and hyperlinks stay clickable.
- Can I fix a mixed-orientation PDF in one go?
- Yes. Assign an independent rotation to each page from the preview area. The output PDF can have some pages rotated 90° and others rotated 270° — all in one pass.
- Can I rotate password-protected PDFs?
- Not directly. Open the protected file in a PDF reader first, save an unlocked copy, then run the rotation through HexxPDF.
- Does rotating change my original file?
- No. The PDF you upload stays untouched in the browser; the tool produces a new, rotated copy. Your source file is never modified.
- Will rotating very large PDFs be slow?
- No. Because rotation works at the metadata level, page count and file size barely affect processing time. Even multi-thousand-page PDFs usually finish within seconds.
- Does it work on mobile?
- Yes. The tool is browser-based, so it runs on iPhone, Android or tablet. Thumbnail preview generation may take a little longer on smaller screens.
